What Are Airline User Fees? By Manuel Rivero Jr.

Airline user fees are the extra fees which passengers are often required to pay on top of the basic price of the flight ticket. As opposed to airline taxes, user fees are paid to the federal government for either goods or services which they provide.

User fees cover a range of services including customs, to ensure that all goods brought into the country comply with customs laws in the US. Fees also apply to any merchandise brought into the US to ensure that customs and trade laws are not being violated.

An immigration user fee is also common to ensure that people entering the country are not breaking any laws of immigration. Finally, a fee may be applied to any plants and animals entering the country to ensure that they do not pose any risk to public safety.
